I finally hunted down the HP value to the Golem. Did a Spiral Kick Jump to get the last squid. Did a Dash/Twirl in the lava room to skip a transformation and short cutscene. While falling to the second miniboss I maintain a ground state by spamming dashes against a wall as I fall. For some reason, finishing a transformation on an elevator lets you gain control of it sooner, which saves a few frames. I dance on an elevator while traveling to the second miniboss. Saves less time then the first one since I need to warp after the cutscene anyway. Cutscene interrupted the Elephant genie. Got the second key with blue polarity instead of red polarity. Spiral kicks open key chests insanely quickly. As with the original game, Shantae Advance was developed by creator Matt Bozon on his own. However, all news of the game stopped and nothing became of it. I don't know why that works, but hey 130 frame timesave. Shantae 2: Risky Revolution GBA Cancelled A Shantae sequel was planned for the Game Boy Advance, and screens resembled a port with updated graphics. Despawned the elevator's hitbox by hitting its switch at a specific time. Tiara This piece lets Shantae do a 'twirl' after a dash move, which sends Shantae flying in the air with whatever speed the dash move currently has her at.

As if that weren't enough, if you hit an object or enemy in midair with this thing, you can jump out of it the same way you can with an item, which is used a few times to get some items early.Ĭuffs This piece lets Shantae do a dash move if you stand still for a few seconds, which deals fives times the amount of damage a hair whip does. In addition to that, it's three times as powerful as a hair whip, allowing Shantae to completely annihilate any enemy that doesn't have fixed damage values. Shantae is in seriously limited release because of the game's lack of familiar branding and lowered demand for GBC product, so get out there and pick this girl up. Graphics-9 Sound-8.5 Control-7.5 Challenge-7.5 Story-7 Level Design-6.5/7. This is highly useful, since it can be gotten out in about 4 frames, which is far faster then hair whipping. Shantae looks fantastic as a Game Boy Color game, and pretty darn good on the Game Boy Advancecomparatively speaking, of course. Sash The crown jewel of the Fighter's Gear, this piece allows Shantae to do a 'Spiral Kick' after a up kick, which instantly cancels her upwards momentum and turns her movement into a diagonal one.
SHANTAE GBA ITEM FULL
However, I'm not sure if Wendy actually does anything that couldn't have been done on the GBC (indeed people seem to say that the stages run fine with passwords on a GBC emulator) or whether it's extra levels are just a gimmick to say "you're missing out by not having an SP".in which case it seems a very obscure game to do that with.Īnyway, I'm still interested in compiling a full list of games that did this so thanks for the two you've noted.Oh hey, the Fighter's Gear is actually used now! Anyway, the Fighter's Gear is comprised of four different items, of which each set of two is 'linked', IE they can't be used effectively without each other.īoot This piece allows Shantae to do a neat up kick, which looks really cool and deals twice the amount of damage a hair whip does. I imagine that the thinking behind Link's Awakening was to give people who had already played the game a reason to buy the new version (beyond colorization) and making a colour based dungeon was a good way of saying "we can't do this on the old format". It wasn't anything new, Links Awakening DX on the GBC had an entire added stage and gear to get but since it was color based, it was locked out if you only played it on GB/GBPocket. Both those titles added extra colors to the screen (not a lot, but a few more which was nice.) Games that did this were post-GBA releases, usually delayed, such as the case was with Shantae that did it and Dragon Warrior III. To use GBA mode in VBA-M, go to Options:: Game Boy:: Configure.:: System tab:: Emulated system and pick Game Boy Advance. It also lets you unlock a secret dance/transformation.

Tanooki wrote:The technical reason is that if you can find a way to squeeze a little better performance or colors out of the game if it detects a GBA using the title, you do it so it still can kind of stand out. It is the original version of the game for GBC the game detects when it is put in a GBA and makes the colors brighter (because the original GBA screen was very dark).
